In order to provide data security, PostgreSQL has been used with unique keyspaces per user type (e.g., employees vs. contractors). realday kz have also applied some machine learning algorithms to help predict what kind of shifts workers may prefer and/or have requested in the past by analysing their response patterns during past shifts (examples include shift preferences like length, day/night preference).
